Cadillac Claims to Have Made the 2012 Escalade More Difficult to Steal

In America, the Cadillac Escalade is the favorite choice of thieves, according to the latest study from Highway Loss Data Institute, which we told you about on Thursday. In fact, Cadillac's larger than life SUV has topped the list for several years now.

The problem is that- as you may remember from previous reports- the Escalade is popular amongst thieves not only because stars of all sorts have immortalized it, but also because some security flaws made certain model year versions easy to steal.

Cadillac Points its Guns at Ferrari with New CTS-V Coupe Ad

In many ways, General Motors luxury brand Cadillac is enjoying a renaissance these past few years.

And from what we can tell, the Detroit automaker plans to intensify its assault on the premium segment in the coming years with many new launches such as the ATS compact sedan, the ELR Coupe with extended-range electric vehicle technology and possibly, a production model inspired by the well-received Ciel study.

But before we see a new wave of Cadillacs hitting the streets, the Detroit maker is looking to tout its current portfolio with a very aggressive commerical that points its guns directly at Ferrari.

New Cadillac Ciel 4-door Convertible Concept Wows Pebble Beach Crowd [Photos + Video]

GM's Cadillac division is on a roll lately. After confirming the production of three new cars including the XTS large luxury saloon, the BMW 3-Series rivaling ATS compact sports sedan, and the ELR Coupe plug-in hybrid EV, Cadillac revealed an impressive new concept model called Ciel that looks into the future but winks at the past.

Named after the French word for sky, the Ciel is a large (5.174 mm or 203.7-in. in length) four-seat, four-door convertible with “suicide” rear doors and no B-pillar reminiscent of the 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible.

“Large, expressive luxury is innate to Cadillac and the Ciel recalls that heritage, while suggesting where the brand can go in the future,” said Clay Dean, global design director for Cadillac. “Authentic luxury is driven by experiences, not just products, and Ciel is about the experience of the journey.”

Report: GM Seriously Considering but has Not Yet Decided on Production of Cadillac Converj Coupe

When Cadillac unveiled its Converj concept at the Detroit Motor Show in 2009, it drew a lot of attention thanks to its cutting-edge styling and equally impressive hardware as it was powered by the firm's Voltec hybrid system that comprises of a 16 Kw, T-shaped battery pack and a four-cylinder gasoline engine range extender.

A production version would be a perfect “halo” car for the brand: stylish and at the same time eco-friendly.

Recently, word got out that Cadillac gave the green light for the production version of the Converj and that the company had awarded a production contract to A123 Systems for the development of the Nanophosphate lithium-ion batteries to be used in future electric vehicles.

Bling from the Past: 1979 Cadillac Seville by Gucci

Occasionally, automakers take a more imaginative (or desperate, take your pick) approach with their marketing tactics, often turning to companies in completely different niches to spice up their cars and create what they call special edition models.

One of the more recent examples is the Fiat Group, which earlier this month, rolled out the second edition of its 500 by Gucci series based on the faux-convertible version of the city car featuring a simple folding fabric roof.

But this isn't the first time that Gucci has joined forces with the auto industry. Back in the late 1970s, the famous high-end Italian fashion and leather goods label collaborated with GM's Cadillac division to create the Seville by Gucci special edition.
